Yavanna Kementári
New version posted June 30, 2005*
Seasonal Variations Below
Ah, at last, my Muse decided to get off her behind and finish Yavanna, the Queen of the Earth (but not before she took a whack at trying to finish at least three other Sims, all of which balked and said, "Later" in no uncertain terms). Yavanna presented several strange and unusual challenges -- the biggest of which concerned her gown. I'd come up with several different meshes, and was unhappy with the results of all of them. After completing the Sim for Arwen, however, it occurred to me that the general shape of that gown was what I was aiming for, with some alterations. For one thing, Yavanna is supposed to be representative of the bounty of nature, after a fashion, and the anorexically thin and pubscent flat-chested appearance of the Maxis meshes just don't cut it when you're trying to depict an Earth Mother type. Neither, for that matter, is the rather bimboesque look of some more "adult" player-created Sims quite appropriate (Yavanna in spike heels. Riiiiiiight....). I hope that what I've devised works as well for others as it does for me. As for the head mesh, it's not quite clear in these images, but there are two braided loops, one on either side of her head, which start in front of her ears and are drawn back and pinned together near the top of the back of her head. You can just barely see in the picture on the left an edge of a gold comb in the shape of several overlapping leaves pinning the braids together. This comb is associated with her body mesh rather than her head, so that she will not be wearing it to bed and swimming.
One aspect of this outfit that was purely unintentional: that she looks rather Irish. I have always envisioned Yavanna with auburn hair, and that her gown would be the colors of leaves and the earth seemed to be a given. I tried several different ways of working leaf designs into the gown, but the one that ultimately worked best was the loops of knotwork passamentarie.
Seasonal Variations
Winter available here
Yavanna Summer and Fall
Summer (left), Autumn (right). Summer is based on my mesh for the NPC Merchant's Wife ( b5k1fafit), fall on my mesh for Idril Celebrindal (b9k7fafit). Both are included in the download.

*The new version has a slightly more detailed version of the body mesh, adding a three-dimensional girdle, as well as the decorative leaves at the back of the head and the crown (which will drop when she changes clothes). The head is the new version I designed last year, with a slightly different mesh and much better facial skin.
