Tilion
Servant of Oromë, Guide of the Moon
I started work on Tilion right after I finished Arien -- since it seemed appropriate to have the Maia guides for both the Sun and the Moon represented -- but things got derailed by the formal wear project (and various computer woes). But at last, here he is -- and what a piece of work he turned out to be! We are told that Tilion loved silver, that he had a bow of silver, and thus was also fond of the silver light of Telperion, which is part of how he came to be chosen as the Maia who steered the Moon. So here we are, back at silver and gray again!
Orginally, I had given Tilion long wavy hair that was unbound, but discovered that it was far too easy to confuse him with Círdan, another silver-haired denizen of the Elder Days, so I decided to change the mesh to be wavy and pulled back, but not braided. I had also debated whether or not he should have a beard, and decided that though he looked fine without it, he looked better with at least some facial hair. This is, after all, very likely the person who would one day be sung about as "The Man in the Moon" in Tolkien's writings, so I opted to give him a look that was neither Elven-young nor quite yet that of an "old man" -- but perhaps one who was at the beginning of what would become the legends.
