Thranduil
King of Mirkwood, son of Oropher,
father of Legolas

As I have said many times, as long as my Muse continues to want to make Sim versions of the characters from Tolkien's works, I'll keep on making them, albeit in my own interpretations rather than someone else's. I have no idea why (well, actually, I do, but that's neither here nor there), but Thranduil is one of the characters for which I've received a lot of requests. (This isn't a response to that, just the whim striking. My suspicion for the many requests is that he's Legolas' father, and there are folks wanting to expand Legolas' kinfolk in their games.) Although Tolkien mentions Thranduil as having been around in all three ages of the early world, I decided to put him here with the Elves of the Third Age, since his most prominent role in Tolkien's writings comes as the otherwise nameless Elvenking of The Hobbit -- not the most auspicious of roles, especially in his introduction, but in many ways an even more prominent part in the history of Middle-earth than his son.

There are at least a few things we know about Thranduil that gave me guides for designing his Sim: he had blond hair, and he was fond of jewels and other riches (we won't get into his fondness for wine here). That argued for giving him fancy clothing, with precious metals and jewel tones. The brown cloak is a concession to the need for greater discretion while traveling abroad in Mirkwood, but it is done in brocade, and covers rich emerald green patterned with leaves, a nod to Mirkwood's name in less perilous days, Greenwood the Great.
