Orodreth
Second King of Nargothrond, Son of Finarfin, Brother of Galadriel

Since I realized that I was coming relatively close to finishing Sims for the known members of the descendants of Finwë, I decided to make my next project finishing the children of Finarfin. After a bit of research, I could find no specific descriptions for the remaining three sons, but a number of references to "the golden-haired house of Finarfin," so I decided to go with that and make all the kids blond, of various shades. With a Vanyar grandmother, a blond-haired father, and a Telerin mother, it seemed logical. Orodreth took up the leadership of Nargothrond when his elder brother Finrod went to fulfill his oath to aid Barahir by helping his son Beren in his quest, so there are some deliberate similarities between his outfit and Finrod's. However, I'm not of the school that thinks Orodreth was the father of Gil-galad (Tolkien's first instincts were that he was the son of Fingon; the notion of him being a son of Orodreth came in some of his later thoughts about revision, and frankly, I don't believe this was a part of the story that required or would be improved by such a change).

My choice of colors was again an attempt to keep a connection with the family's connection to the Teleri (as are the deliberate streaks of silver in several of the characters' hair). What we know of Orodreth didn't give a lot more to work with. He was obviously a peaceful person, being the only one of Finarfin's children who openly spoke against Fëanor's rebellion (even though he went into exile with his brothers). He maintained Finrod's policy of isolation despite the undermining influence of Celegorm and Curufin, and only began to fight openly against Morgoth after Túrin persuaded him into action -- which eventually led to the invasion of Nargothrond and his own death. Nice guy, seemingly, but one who gets pushed around by the not so nice guys in the end. Hopefully, he'll have better luck in his life as a Sim.
