The spouse of Tulkas and sister of Oromë, the most significant things said of Nessa in The Silmarillion are that she was lithe, fleet-footed, loved to run and dance, and was followed by deer. Not exactly a whole lot to go on when trying to get a visual impression of her, so I took the color of her eyes and hair from what I had already done for her brother Oromë and went from there. When I wrote my fanfic novel I Entulesse and came to a scene in which I had to describe the Valar (at least in general terms), it came to me to describe Nessa's clothing as being the "hue of a butterfly's wing," so in keeping with that, I gave her gown some gossamer areas (mostly in the back), and made the comb in her hair a butterfly-like shape. Coming up with the complex hairstyle posed both a challenge and a triumph, because in doing so I finally figured out some of the problems of texture mapping meshes that had been vexing me for quite a while. Because of that experiment, for the moment, the comb is a part of Nessa's head mesh and will stay in her hair regardless of what she's wearing. I plan to change it later, when I finish a few other things.
