Seasonal Variations

Irmo Summer and Fall

Summer (left), Fall (right). Summer is a new mesh; Fall is based on my mesh for Celegorm (b5q2mafit). It has corrected texture mapping for the lower sleeves, and will overwrite the original Celegorm body mesh to correct the problem for that character as well. Both seasons are included in the download.

Seasonal Variations Below

It made sense, of course, for the next of the remaining Valar to be Irmo, since I had already done both his brother Námo and his sister Nienna.  We aren't given terribly detailed descriptions of any of the Valar (Irmo less so than some of the others), so I decided to design him following three things:  1). the dark hair I'd already given his siblings, 2). the fact that his wife Estë the Healer was a night person, and 3). the notion that the Ainur in Arda adopted appearances like those of the Children of Ilúvatar, the first of whom were the Elves.  It had occurred to me that I'd made all the other male Valar bearded, yet the only Elf we know of with a beard was Círdan, and it would otherwise seem that Elves generally did not tend to have (or go in for) facial hair.  Moreover, I'd never been able to visualize the Lord of Lórien as bearded, so I decided to leave him clean-shaven.  His clothing is a cross between Námo's and Nienna's in style, if not in color, and is suitable, I think, for the Master of Dreams.

*Many of the same problems I perceived in my meshes and skins for Námo troubled me about the Sim I'd made for his brother Irmo, but there was one even more profound issue that disturbed me: Whenever I used him in the game, it got to the point that I couldn't stand looking at him. Every time he'd show up on someone's doorstep or in the background of other areas, I'd get a feeling not unlike hearing fingernails scraping on the blackboard. This told me that there was something seriously wrong. I tried to address some of that issue when I made the formalwear skin for him, but it just didn't do enough, so I finally had to conclude that the problem was something quite basic. Irmo is the Master of Dreams, but there was something in his face that just screamed "this person is not a dreamer" to me. I finally decided that perhaps I'd made him look too old and hard, when I should have made him appear at least a bit younger and though not callow, at least someone for whom dreams and visions and desires are very much alive and kicking. This is the result, and I hope folks will like it. If not, the old version is still available, below on the right.
