Ingwë
King of the Vanyar, High King of the Elves

Given that he was revered by all Elves and considered their High King, Ingwë is certainly an enigmatic figure -- perhaps intentionally. We know he was a Vanyarin Elf, one of the three ambassadors who came with Oromë to check out Valinor; he led his people on the Great Journey, and once he got to Valinor, first lived in Tirion then later was so liked by Manwë, he took up residence on Taniquetil and according to Tolkien "sits at the feet of Manwë." Hopefully, the good professor was waxing poetic, because the notion of anybody doing that literally brings to mind images of a faithful dog, not a beloved friend. I'm going for the "beloved friend" interpretation, here. Once Ingwë became the High King of All Elves, nothing more was said of him, and it would seem that he became a rather aloof and iconic figure, even to his own people. That made designing a Sim for him rather difficult, because who wants to make a character bound to be a snob? In the end, I decided that the reason we didn't hear about Ingwë wasn't because he'd become lofty and inaccessible, but because the story of The Silmarillion largely concerns the Noldor and what happened during their Exile to Middle-earth. Manwë himself is extremely compassionate, so it didn't follow that he would become fond of an Elf who was too snooty to have time for his own people. This is the result of that interpretation.

In designing the face and head, I stuck with the one thing we know is famous about the appearance of the Vanyar: golden hair. I also tried to come up with a face that was noble but not haughty. White seems to be a color of honor in Tolkien's mythos, so I went with that as the primary color for the cloth, with touches of sky blue to indicate the connection with Manwë. Tolkien did not draw an emblem for Ingwë (to the best of my knowledge), so I came up with something of my own, used in the pendant. I also wanted to make the crown distinctly different from those of the Noldor I'd done so far. and in the process accidentally managed to come up with one that at some angles is reminiscent of something Gondorian, occasionally giving the impression of bird wings along the sides. Oddly enough, this is suitable for someone associated with Manwë, since he was fond of all birds that were "swift of wing."
