Indis the Fair
Second wife of Finwë, Mother of Fingolfin and Finarfin, close kin of Ingwë

In keeping with that "Greek tragedy" atmosphere surrounding the Noldorin Elves, along came Indis of the Vanyar, the second wife of Finwë. Poor Indis was blamed for much of the troubles of the Noldor, because some (primarily Fëanor, who disliked her and hated her sons) felt that if Finwë had never remarried and had been content with his one "mighty son," none of the evils that befell the Noldor would have happened. Of course, this discounts Fëanor's powerful and villainous jealousy, not to mention the fact that many of the more temperate natured and artistic Noldor were descended from her. The classic problem of jealous children and unappreciated step-parents rises again.

What we know of Indis is that she was tall, blonde, and beautiful, and was very much unlike Míriel in nature (which might explain where Fëanor got his hot-headedness). In an attempt to design a Sim that would be a visual opposite of the gloomy Míriel, I went for the white-and-pastel palette, which suitable compliments her fair hair and skin. Parts of her gown were a deliberate echo of my second gown for Varda, since the Vanyar lived on the slopes of Taniquetil, and being Ingwë's "close kin" (sister? cousin? daughter? Tolkien never specifies), it's likely she spent some time with him in Ilmarin, and might have been taken with the fashions of the Queen of the Stars.
