Unlike the winter version of Olórin, I know why I decided to make Fingon a part of the Winter in the West project. During his life in Middle-earth, Fingon's kingdom (which he inherited from his father Fingolfin) was a region called Hithlum, a plateau that had been made by the upheavals of the earth during the Battle of the Powers. Even though it was a notably cold area, many Elves and Men fleeing from Morgoth and his minions came to Hithlum, for its defenses were never breached by Morgoth's armies. It fell only after Fingon and his armies were destroyed in the Nirnaeth Arnoediad (The Battle of Unnumbered Tears).

In designing the skins and meshes for Fingon, I deliberately tried to get something of a resemblance between him, his son Ereinion, and his brother Turgon (when I get around to Fingolfin, I intend to do the same). Blue and black appear to have been common colors of the House, as well as star-like patterns, and it seems as if a lot of the Eldar had a thing for silver. I believe Tolkien did design a device for Fingon, but while I was working on this outfit, I couldn't find the pictures of such things, try as I might. Should I ever come across it and feel it's appropriate to the general appearance of the character, I may post a modified version. The crown is a step between Turgon's and Gil-galad's; it's primarily like Gil-galad's, but without the lower extensions at the back of the head, pointing down to the nape of the neck. Since I couldn't recall if Fingon had any notoriously famous weapons (all I could remember was that he had a bow with him when he went to rescue Feanor's son Maedhros from Thangorodrim), I decided to let him have a more peaceable depiction and skip the armament for once.
