Eärwen
Daughter of Olwë, Wife of Finarfin, Mother of Finrod, Orodreth, Angrod, Aegnor, and Galadriel

Tolkien clearly had a passion for details, but why he mentioned the wives of the eldest and youngest sons of Finwë and skipped mentioning Fingolfin's wife is anyone's guess. Ah, well. When Finarfin decided to go back to Tirion after discovering what Fëanor had done in Alqualondë, it was with good reason: Finarfin's wife, Eärwen, was the daughter of Olwë, the lord of the Telerin Elves in Alqualondë, and thus it was Finarfin's own marriage-kin that Fëanor and his followers were slaying. Whether or not Eärwen herself was killed was not said, but since it was mentioned that at least some of Finarfin's children lived in Tirion in the Blessed Realm, one can presume Eärwen was there and not in Alqualondë when the Kinslaying occurred.

Because she is one of the "sea elves," I decided to give Eärwen clothing that reflected this. The gown is shorter, to avoid the problems of hems dragging in the water; she had decorative anklets, but no shoes. The cloth patterns of the dress, in sea greens, are of shells and waves; her jewelry makes use of pearls in both the earrings and the headdress. The design of both her girdle and her necklace are the same design as Finarfin's circlet, wrought in pearl on the girdle and silver on the necklace. I was not able to find any description of Eärwen herself, so I drew off descriptions of other Teleri, like Elwe and Cirdan, who had silver hair, and the fact that Galadriel's hair was said to be like the mingling of the gold and silver lights of the Two Trees -- perhaps a combination of her parents' hair colors. It would also explain why fair hair was so dominant in the House of Finarfin, if both he and his wife were fair haired -- combining traits of both the Teleri and the Vanyar in a house of the Noldor.
