The Palantír
Yes, I know it looks a bit like a bowling ball, but it really works (as a telephone, of course).  When a Sim reaches down to use it, their hand just barely goes through the upper surface, and presto! comes away with a telephone handset.  (I'm not good enough at hacking to get that to change.)  It will function perfectly fine as an ordinary tabletop telephone in any version of the Sims, and can be set on any surface (though I made the two tables in the Thematic Surfaces area to use with it).  The thing sits smack in the center of those little round tables, and though you can eventually figure out front from back by paying attention to the direction of that lighter blue streak at the top, it's best if you first place it on a surface that has two adjacent sides unblocked, so the Sims can get at it without any problem.  (Remember, the palantíri needed to be in proper "alignment" in order to communicate with one another, and if this palantír isn't, your Sim won't be able to use it.)

When someone is trying to contact you, your palantír not only will emit a warbling sound to get your attention, but it will also move slightly and give off a pulsing light.  With all that, your Sims will be sure to sit up and take notice, while they enjoy the ability to communicate with their neighbors and the rest of Simsville in elegant ancient Elven fashion!

The Palantír of Minas Ithil

When the forces of Sauron sacked and overtook Minas Ithil -- renaming it Minas Morgul -- Sauron took possession of the palantír that had been kept there.  It was recovered after the fall of Sauron, found in the wreckage of Barad-dur, but it had been in the Dark Lord's possession and bent to his will for so long, it showed things that only the strong of heart could bear to see.  Your replica of the Minas Ithil palantír will show that same thing to you when it signals for -- indeed, demands -- your attention.  The matching table can be found in the Thematic Surfaces section of Tirion.

The Palantír of Avallónë

The Master Stone of all the palantíri, this stone was kept in the tower of Avallónë on Tol Eressëa in Eldamar, and never left the West.  When it signals for attention, it will pulse with a bright, pure white light.
