Although I know there are many fans of Jackson's movies who will be disappointed that I didn't make Aragorn look like Viggo Mortensen, I can only say, "To thine own self be true." If there was any character (besides Gandalf) with whom I most powerfully disagreed with Jackson and Co.'s "reinvention," it was Aragorn. His "king of men" -- who was in truth descended of Men, Elves, and a Maia -- just didn't cut it in my book, for reasons I have enumerated elsewhere. Moreover, I had a visual image of Aragorn in my head nearly 40 years before Jackson made his films, and I decided to stick with that long-held vision rather than cater to popular whims of the moment.

With that said, this version of Aragorn is more the way I see him as the Dúnedain Ranger, not the King of the final book. That he is wearing black and grays is not an inspiration drawn from Jackson; it's a logical extrapolation based on the book, and the fact that the "Grey Company," Aragorn's kinsmen, fellow Rangers from the North, were called that because of their garb. Also, black and silver are the colors of Gondorian royalty, and Aragorn is, of course, the last remaining heir of Elendil at the time of the War of the Ring. This being "early Aragorn," I have given his cloak a clasp that is the rayed star of the Dúnedain rather than the leaf brooch of Lórien. I had originally intended to make a version of the mesh with him carrying Narsil, but I wanted to have this finished to post with my other "birthday gifts" and that wasn't quite ready yet, so I decided to go with what I have ready. In the future, I will likely post additional outfits, as I have for other characters.
